Why STACKS Needs Internet Access to Function
For products using STACKS Auth, internet access is essential to maintain functionality while enabling an offline mode for up to 30 days. Here’s why this system is in place and how it works.
Why Does STACKS Need Internet Access?
License Integrity:
Internet access ensures that your product licenses remain valid and secure. This protects against unauthorized use and maintains the integrity of the licensing system.
Critical Security Updates:
Regular online connections allow us to deliver security updates promptly, keeping your products safe and functional.
How It Works
30-Day Offline Mode:
Once authenticated, STACKS Auth enables you to use your products offline for up to 30 days without requiring internet access.
Periodic Authentication:
To continue using your products beyond 30 days, your computer needs to connect to the internet for re-authentication. This process ensures licenses remain valid and updates are applied.
What Happens If You Don’t Connect?
- If your computer doesn’t connect to the internet within 30 days, your products will temporarily stop working until they can authenticate again. (You may see an "Authfile_Expired" error.)
- Restoring an internet connection will automatically complete the authentication process, allowing you to resume using your products.
Best Practices
- Ensure your device connects to the internet periodically to avoid disruptions.
- Before extended offline periods (e.g., traveling), connect to the internet to reset the 30-day offline mode timer.
